FIIN’s ESG Task Force members were recruited as moderators and panelists for several webcasts at IMN’s Solar, Pace and ESG Virtual Conference held from September 2nd to 4th. Task Force member Nate Gabig of KPMG kicked off the event as the moderator of the first session focused on Solar in the ABS Market. Discussants included Danny Abajian of Sunrun, Alex Kaplan of Mosaic, Stepen Viscovich of CS, and Gary Blitz of Aon. Themes covered include recent solar transactions, the state of various segments of the solar marketplace, the ITC tax credit, technological advancements and other issues.
The second panel session, Investor Perspectives on Solar and Pace, was co-hosted by FIIN and IMN. FIIN members on the panel included moderator Joe Lau of Lord Capital, discussants Manish Kapoor of West Wheelock and Sarah Lange of Pentegra. Amanda Samai of Counterpointe Sustainable Real Estate rounded out the session. Discussions focused on the risk and returns characteristics of Solar and Pace investing, green investing during the Covid-19 pandemic, and prospects for the asset classes going forward.
The final panel of the event, Positive Impact of ESG During & Post-Covid - U.S. Market, was joined by ESG Task Force Chair Rob McDonough. Other panelists included Lacie Clark of Alchemy Renewable Energy, Amy Hauter of Brown Advisory, Flora Chau of IFC, and Natasha Aikens of Fitch Ratings. Topics included defining ESG and ESG considerations in structured finance, COVID-19 social bonds, the evolution of ESG in other sectors, as well as data limitations in ESG, various certifications and scoring, and ESG investment performance.
